New low loader for Schmidt-Heide
H. & H. Schmidt GmbH & Co. KG from Heide (Germany) has been using Broshuis trailers for nearly 30 years. Their first purchase dates back to 1995, and the company now owns nearly 20 Broshuis trailers, ranging from 3-axle to 7-axle low loaders. Recently, they acquired another 3-axle SL2 low loader. These vehicles are used for transporting machinery, construction equipment, and military vehicles.
Special transport faces increasing challenges. "Deteriorating infrastructure and growing bureaucratic red tape are making transport requiring permits more complex," explains Henning Schmidt (Director). Despite these obstacles, H. & H. Schmidt remains committed to maintaining their high quality standards. Thanks to their years of experience and expertise, they consistently find the right solutions and provide excellent service to their customers.
In 2008, the company purchased a 3-axle air-suspended low loader from Broshuis. “We chose this type at the time because it met all our requirements. It already had flat beams and even back then, with the wireless remote control, the ease of use we had envisioned. To this day, this trailer is used on a daily basis,” says Henning Schmidt. "The air suspension and hydraulic steering were still up-to-date at the time and sufficient for our loads with a maximum weight of 30 tons. Extendable up to about 13 meters, we were able to serve our customers for a long period." The drivers at H. & H. Schmidt still enjoy working with it due to its easy handling. The company takes care of the trailer's maintenance themselves, and in 2015, the low loader was completely refurbished, re-galvanised, and repainted by Broshuis. “The trailer still meets our expectations, but it is now time for a replacement,” adds Henning.
New generation with SL axles
Recently, H. & H. Schmidt chose another 3-axle low loader from Broshuis, opting for the SL2 axles. These innovative axles provide maximum manoeuvrability and a load capacity of 12 tonnes per axle line. "We wanted increased load capacity and have positive experiences with the SL axle technology," says Henning. Thanks to the SL2 axles, the low loader has a loading floor height of just 780 mm, above the axle bogie, making it ideal for transporting higher loads. "With a total stroke of 360 mm, we can also create considerable ground clearance, and thanks to the SL2 axle, drive at any ride height without extra tyre wear. This significantly reduces maintenance costs and ensures improved stability and safe transport of heavy goods, especially given the deteriorating infrastructure. While the design of the new trailer resembles that of the existing vehicle, it features even lower beams and meets even higher quality standards."
In deciding to choose Broshuis once again, previous experiences and the strong collaboration played a significant role. "The quality and service that Broshuis provides are consistently excellent. This gives us the confidence that we can continue to work seamlessly with this new generation of trailers in the future."
