refurbishment order for the Dutch army
Last week, Broshuis delivered the first trailers for the refurbishment order it is carrying out together with DAF for the Dutch Ministry of Defence. It involves a total of 100 trailers to be completely refurbished before the end of Q1 2025.
In November 2023, Broshuis received this order from the Dutch Ministry of Defence. It concerns the truck-trailer combinations (Tropco) delivered by Broshuis in cooperation with DAF between 2005 and 2006. The 39 pieces of 7-axle 650kN trailers are used to transport the main battle tanks (Leopard). The 63 pieces of 4-axle 400kN trailers are widely used for transporting armoured tracked and wheeled vehicles and engineered equipment such as excavators, cranes and bridge parts. The vehicles have been used for missions and exercises in Europe, Africa and the Middle East for nearly 20 years and have proven their service here.
high-quality standard
Broshuis won the original contract at the time because of its high-quality standard, its experience and previous deliveries to the Dutch army and several other countries in the EU, which also ensures easier cooperation and parts supply.
After the end of its normal service life, the Ministry of Defence has expressed its desire to keep the trailers for at least another 10 years. This requires a complete refurbishment and modernisation of the trailers to today's standard. As the original manufacturer, Broshuis was honoured to receive this order. Here, Broshuis' experience with refurbishments of military trailers comes in handy. In the past, for example, it also completely refurbished 78 trailers for the UK Ministry of Defence.
completely stripped and dismantled
The trailers are brought to Broshuis in batches and then completely stripped and dismantled. The entire chassis is blasted and metallized and then given a two-component epoxy primer and a 2K top coat. Furthermore, the axles and brakes will be completely refurbished and upgraded to the latest EBS braking system. The trailer will then be rebuilt with all new parts. "With this refurbishment, Broshuis guarantees an additional 20 years of service life for these trailers," says Pieter-Bas Broshuis.
By the end of Q1 2025, all 100 trailers must be refurbished. The first refurbished trailers were taken off and collected last week. The result is definitely worth it! Extensive training on how to use all the new features and the updated Integrated Logistics Support (ILS) also took place during the delivery.
The refurbishment and construction of new defence trailers for a.o. the US, Belgian, Danish and Norwegian army takes place on special project lines. This does not disrupt Broshuis' production for its civilian customers and enables Broshuis to continue to offer good delivery times to these customers.
