A Striking Combination on the Road
Since 2005, Atiz Heavy Logistics, based in Istanbul, has been active in the heavy transport market. The company, led by founder Cengiz Atiz, specialises in customised transport solutions. Through multimodal methods, Atiz ensures that even the most complex and heavy loads are safely delivered to their destinations. In 2021, a promising collaboration with Broshuis began, which has since become an important part of the Atiz fleet.
Today, we accompany Yücel Okumus, a driver for Atiz, on a transport journey. Behind the wheel of his pink Volvo and paired with a Broshuis 6-axle SL2 semi low loader, he is an eye-catching combination on the road! This trailer, featuring independent suspension, is a favourite among drivers for its stability, low loading height, and exceptional manoeuvrability. Today’s transport is the perfect demonstration of its capabilities.
The load is a pontoon, part of the Cutter Suction Dredger CSD500, manufactured by Damen. This dredger will be used for river cleaning and is destined for an end customer in Asia via Atiz’s partner, Gürkan Transport. The journey starts at Damen in Nijkerk (Netherlands), where Yücel, alongside escort René Molenaar, prepares the trailer for loading. The pontoon measures 17.49 m in length, 3.42 m in height and 3.43 m in width. With extreme precision, a crane places the 63-tonne pontoon on the trailer, after which Yücel secures it safely and with great care.
Thanks to the independent suspension (SL2) on this semi low loader, transporting long and heavy loads like this pontoon is effortless. With a steering angle of up to 57 degrees, the trailer can navigate narrow roads and roundabouts with ease, despite its length. “With this trailer, my work is easier, and I feel safer,” says driver Yücel. “I’ve driven many trailers, but this one provides comfort and confidence. Everything works perfectly, allowing me to drive stress-free.”
The SL2’s low deck height of just 850 mm makes it ideal for tall and heavy cargo, like today’s pontoon. Additionally, the trailer offers the stability needed for long-distance hauls without risk. For Yücel, this is not just a trailer but an essential partner on the road: “This trailer is like my baby. Everything is perfectly tuned.”

The collaboration between Atiz and Broshuis began in 2021 and has quickly developed into a strong and reliable partnership.
