Staad chose semi low loader
Staad chose the multifunctional Broshuis semi low loader. Staad is an importer and dealer of Doosan earth-moving machines in the central and southern Netherlands. For the transport of the machines, the company uses a nice combination of a DAF truck with a multifunctional Broshuis semi low loader. We went ‘On the Road’ for a day with the regular driver of this beautiful combination; Frank Verbij.
The head office of Staad is located in Veghel and that is also the base of Frank Verbij. Previously, the transport was outsourced to a transport company, but with this combination, they are able to do most of it themselves. Frank explains: "Until recently all transport was outsourced to a transport company, but Staad wanted to do that by themselves. If we deliver a machine ourselves, a piece of training and explanation of the machine will be included. I do that myself and I take time with the customer. This is not possible with a transport company, because the drivers do not have the specific knowledge." Frank is therefore more than just a driver. He is also a demonstrator and delivery specialist.
Multifunctional
A transport solution was sought for the wide range of Doosan's delivery programs to transport as many machines as possible. Sales Representative Patrick Douma from Broshuis supervised the purchasing process and that led to the multifunctional semi low loader with wheel wells and an excavator through. The trailer is equipped with two wheel wells, but by extending two more will be created. For the transport of large wheel loaders, this is necessary to keep the overall height down. The loading floor can also be widened so that crawler cranes with a weight of up to 36 tonnes can also be transported. It is striking how much thought has been given to the filling of the wheel wells. Douma: "Because we work with compact shims, everything can be easily operated and converted by one man."
Excavator through
Because two rigid axles were chosen, the possibility of an excavator through arose. That is unusual for a semi low loader but it increases the deployment possibilities of the trailer. The excavator through also allows machines with a long boom to be transported within the legal limits. Incidentally, driver Frank cannot transport all Doosan machines with the new Broshuis lowloader: "The largest and heaviest machines are done by specialized transporters, but they also transport smaller machines. After all, I cannot do everything myself with this combination, but the aim is that I deliver all new machines to the extent that they fit this combination. With this Broshuis, however, we can transport most of the machines we sell ourselves, and that was what it was all about."
Auxiliary steering function
The hydraulic ramps are adjustable in width, making narrow and wide machines easy to load. Because the valves have a double hinged design, the ramp angle is extremely small, so that even machines with little ground clearance can drive up safely. In addition to versatility, maneuverability was also a wish of Staad. For that reason, a steerable self-tracking axle was chosen. Special is that it can be hydraulically controlled by means of the auxiliary steering function. This allows the driver to steer backwards manually therefore making the trailer particularly manoeuvrable.
