a complete refurbishment
At Broshuis, quality is always the priority - whether it’s for new builds or refurbishments. On May 30th, 2024, West.Neder.Land.’s 3-axle semi low loader arrived at our workshop after 22 years of reliable service. It was time for a complete refurbishment. Thanks to our expertise and West-Nederland’s trust, this trailer has been given a second life, fully prepared for the future.
A second life for an old trailer
After 22 years, the hydraulically steered semi low loader was ready for renewal. “It was a bit worn out,” says Isman Sayed (Service Representative), who managed the project. “Back in 2003, the trailer wasn’t metallized, and it shows. Technically, it no longer met today’s standards, but the chassis was still solid, so a refurbishment made perfect sense".
During refurbishments, we tackle almost everything: lighting, cabling, brakes, hydraulics, EBS, and lashing eyes. Only the chassis remains. That’s how we bring every trailer back up to modern standards, both technically and visually.
“We start with a technical inspection, after which we discuss the customer’s wishes and make clear agreements, aligning everything carefully. During the structural phase, the requested modifications are implemented. Once this is complete, we perform a detailed inspection before the trailer moves to the paint shop. Then, it’s fully reassembled as new. Throughout the process, we keep the customer updated with photo reports. After the refurbishment, it drives like new. Completely tailored to today’s needs,” Isman proudly explains.
From crooked to straight as an arrow
In September that same year, the 3-axle semi low loader was back on the road. Jeffrey Verboon (Manager Operations, West.Neder.Land.) is pleased with the results of the refurbishment. “The process went smoothly, thanks to great communication with Isman,” Jeffrey says. “This trailer was built at a time when tare weight wasn’t as important, which you can see in the thickness of the steel. This makes the trailer somewhat heavier, but ideal for transporting sandwich panels. During the refurbishment, it was fully adapted to our operations. Storage boxes for ramps were added, as well as stake pockets for loading long materials on one side. The trailer can also extend and now features a movable table which is great for added flexibility.
Mark van der Kaaij (Driver, West.Neder.Land.) clearly agrees: “I’m really happy with the result. The trailer drives straight and feels brand new. Previously, especially during the winter, it tended to go out of sync. But now it tracks perfectly, even when fully extended. The new remote-controlled steering is a game changer: simple to use and exactly what you want. In short, it’s a great trailer again. Basically brand new, but built exactly to our preferences. This one’s good for another 20 years!”
