The new combination of Van Schie
Mark Raaphorst is a driver for Van Schie Transport, a company located in Mijdrecht. Mark recently started driving with the new Volvo FM540 10x4 with Crawler gears. The new Volvo forms a completely new span in combination with the attractive Broshuis low loader with four lines of pendle axles. The combination is good for transporting machines up to sixty tons within the 100 tons total weight. Broshuis was present during the first drive with this interesting combination.
Typically dutch
The Volvo FM is equipped with a flattened cabin roof which allows driving with the mast of piling rigs across the cabine. A typical Dutch solution, because this is actually only allowed in the Netherlands. The big advantage of this is that the total combination length is shorter, which improves the manoeuvrability. The Volvo came out of the factory as 8x4 Triple but in Terberg they added a second front axle to it. To make room for the second front axle, various parts such as air tanks, batteries and the fuel tanks have been moved to a rack behind the cab. This was done by the HSM. That company also ensured the interesting structure of the chassis with checkered plate seal and mudguards.
Joystick
The Volvo FM is equipped with a permanently installed joystick for the control of the Broshuis low loader. Mark: “It is the intention that this combination always stays together and for that reason is chosen for this remote control system. That works perfect. '' Mark drove his previous truck with a so-called track runner. The Broshuis swing axle low loader is much more advanced which takes some time to get used to. The hydraulic suspension keeps everything perfectly balanced and the 35-ton hydraulic neck gives a lot of possibilities. The bed of the trailer can be extended to 935 cm with a width of 285 cm. The width is maximum 335 cm including the outriggers.
Ballast permit
A special feature of the Broshuis low-loader is that the axle is designed to be pivotable relative to the bed. Which makes the pre-stress variable as well. Furthermore, the low loader is equipped with a special loading bolster that is used to support the pile driving. In this bolster is room for chains, tensioners, etc. The entire combination is within the 22 meters total length which means that they can make use of the so-called 'ballast permit’. This means that you can load up to 10 tons per axle, although the ballast is basically devidable. This is only allowed because of the 22 meters hydraulic suspension. In addition, with pendular axles with the 285 tires, you can load up to 14 tons per axle with an indivisible load.
Liebherr
The first ride of Mark is to Heteren, where a new Liebherr 926 excavator is loaded. A machine with a tare weight of 27 tons, which is not that heavy for the new combination. Mark drives the Liebherr sideways into the lower bed and manoeuvres very carefully with the machine. The crane arm falls neatly into the deep excavator through that runs between the pendle axles. After having done the previous steps, Mark is ready to go to Mijdrecht with his new team and the new Liebherr. It is impressive seeing him driving on the road.
