Transport of wind turbine blades
We compare the different versions with each other so you will be able to make the right choice when purchasing a wind turbine trailer. With wind turbine blades, the choice of a semi-trailer type is made based on the length of the blade; the longer the blade, the longer the trailer must be. So to achieve all expectations, we even build trailers that can extend four times. These trailers can achieve a total length of 69 meters.
Extend
Our wind turbine trailers are extendable 3 or 4 times. With these lengths, all actual blades can be transported. Below you will see schematically how long different wing trailers can be.
Type | Extendability | Extendable length | Total length | Load capacity |
4-axle Triple Wing Carrier | 3x | 35 meter | 53 meter | 42,7 T |
5-axle Triple Wing Carrier | 3x | 35 meter | 53 meter | 50,7 T |
3-axle Quattro Blade Trailer | 4x | 49 meter | 69 meter | 28,8 T |
4-axle Quattro Blade Trailer | 4x | 49 meter | 69 meter | 37,8 T |
You can choose from two lengths for the choice of extendability. This has to do with the length of the blade that will be transported. Blades up to +/- 60 meters can be transported on the triple extendable trailers. We have specially developed the 4x extendable trailer for larger blades.
So why four types? The wind turbine blades are often not heavy so a multi-axle trailer is not necessary anyway. Nevertheless, we have chosen to design a multi-axles variant:
5-axle Wing Carrier
The 5-axle Wing carrier has been specially designed so it can also transport concrete steel tower trays making your trailer multifunctional for the wind industry. In addition to transport for the wind industry, this trailer can also be used for many other types of loads.
4-axle Quattro Blade Trailer
The 4-axle Quattro trailer is specially designed for using the "Sliding and lifting system". The slider system allows the semi-trailer loaded with the blade to be partially retracted, making the wheelbase shorter and the crossing larger. Due to the shorter wheelbase, it is possible for the trailer to take tighter turns.
The lifting system makes it possible to raise the tip of the blade to a height of 10m so it can be higher than houses, trees and lampposts. As a result, it is not necessary to take an indirect route.
Because of the extra weight of these systems, national legislation (with regard to the extra weight) determines per country whether a 3 or 4 axle trailer is required.
Transport in the wind industry is a profession in itself and is changing rapidly, our specialists are happy to help you choose the right trailer for you.
